Anatomy of a Room: Asbury Ave. Powder Room

When I first laid eyes on this powder room, it was a sad, sad affair. Tiny, dark, dingy and outdated, it did not befit my cool clients and their even cooler home. The task was to breathe new life into the old space. The goal was to accomplish this task while still respecting the style of the historic home. Looking for materials that appealed to my client’s passion for textiles and pattern, we first selected an edgy yet timeless Kelly Wearstler wallpaper and window fabric. We then replaced the old tile floor with a classic Nero Marquina hexagon pattern from Ann Sacks. A diminuitive pedestal sink was sourced to replace the old corner sink. A sculptural and slender sconce from Remains Lighting was used to accomodate the narrow passageway from the door into the bathroom. And finally, a mirror from the client’s collection was hung over the sink, it’s size and patina lending an organic uniqueness to the space. Another beautiful and appropriate renovation complete.
