Color Crush: A Dark Palette
Deep, rich colors feel right at home this time of year. Their depth creates a cozy cocoon when wrapped around a room, or a heightened sense of drama when used as an accent. Below are our favorite spaces by 2to5 Design that feature beautiful dark shades, as well as inspiration from fellow designers on how they tackle these bold palettes.
Farrow and Ball’s Downpipe is a rich dark gray that has undertones of blue and purple. It’s both versatile and neutral, working in a variety of environments and creating the perfect backdrop to almost any other shade. It shows great sophistication in our client’s dining room when paired with rustic, earthy furniture, and is equally at home in our client’s sitting room when complemented by pops of color.
Benjamin Moore’s Blue Note is a bold, saturated navy that works equally well as a feature wall color or an accent. It pairs with warm woods in a rustic modern setting or white trim in more traditional spaces. In the room above we used Blue Note on a focal piece in our client’s beautiful kitchen. The strong color carves out the eating area in this otherwise neutral space.
If walls could talk, Benjamin Moore’s Newburg Green would speak volumes. It works equally well in transitional spaces or more contemporary rooms with modern silhouettes. The photo above of our client’s living room only shows a glimpse of the Newburg Green wall, but a little goes a long way — this shade is powerful and bold and serves as a perfect accent color.
The intrigue and mystery of Pelt by Farrow and Ball makes the viewer want to linger in any space painted in its bold hue. Pelt has a major blue influence but reads like a deep, dark purple. It’s depth of color enhances our client’s dining room above coordinating dramatically with various shades of blue, purple and yellow.
