Tuesday, June
Walk past the car idling at the stop sign.
Do you recognize me? Glide across the street,
lavender swimsuit hugging my body,
towel in hand. Water looks calm.
Wrap my hair in a clip and cut
a stroke through the lake. Hover
around the shore, just close enough
to be admired. Too much closeness tests
my patience with its merciless sighs
and absent minded hmmms.
Slip back towards the house,
towel knotted at my waist,
hair tousled and damp.
See me relishing the morning calm?
Basking in my freedom?
Spotlit by the sun?
Take a good look but don’t get too close.
